Colombia is located in the northern part of Latin America, having access to both the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans. It has inland borders with Ecuador, Brazil, Peru, Venezuela and Panama. Colombia is divided by five main Regions: Andean, Caribbean, Pacific, Orinoquía and Amazon. It covers an area of 1,142 million square kilometers and has a population of over 49,500,000 people. The two main commerce corridors start in the Pacific Coast, entering through the port of Buenaventura, passing through Cali (capital of the main sugar cane producing area) and through the Caribbean Coast entering through the ports of Cartagena, Barranquilla and Santa Marta, both reaching Bogota, Colombia’s Capital. In 2014 Colombia had a petroleum production of 361,4 million barrels/year, from which approximately 94 million barrels/year were refined for local liquid fuel consumption. Colombia has two main refineries, Barrancabermeja and Cartagena, owned by Ecopetrol S.A., from which Colombia’s fuel supply is obtained.
