Its mainland is bordered to the south and east by the Mediterranean Sea except for a small land boundary with Gibraltar; to the north and north east by France, Andorra, and the Bay of Biscay; and to the west and northwest by Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean. With an area of over 500,000 square kilometres, Spain is the second largest country in Western Europe and the European Union and the fifth largest country in Europe. It has the thirteenth largest economy in the world by nominal GDP, and the tenth highest quality of life index rating in the world as of 2005.
Key market statistics:
- Terminals: 1
- Storage capacity: 51,200m³
Our bitumen business plays a key part in helping companies and countries build vital road infrastructure by providing high quality bitumen products on time and safely.
In Spain we have been able to offer this since we acquired our ISO9000 certified Alibesa bitumen terminal in Port of Cadiz, Andalucia, in 2011. The terminal is strategically located less than 100km from the Strait of Gibraltar and provides a storage capacity of 51,200m³.
Its capacity to store and drum any grade of bitumen means it is equipped to serve as an international hub for our bitumen business and a catalyst for future growth. We now employ more than five people at our Spanish business.
Outside our office door
Spain is full of wonderful places to visit, including a host of great cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Seville – all of them with own distinct attractions. Or you could enjoy the many pleasures of the Balearic Islands – from partying the night and day away in Ibitha to relaxing on a tranquil beach in Menorca. Our favourite trip is to drive the beautiful coastal route near Cadiz, passing our bitumen terminals along the way. If you get the chance, try the paella and red wine from the Ribera del Duero region – they’re delicious!
