An independent confederation located in the heart of Western Europe, Switzerland is bordered by Germany to the north, France to the west, Italy to the south, and Austria and Liechtenstein to the east. It has four main languages: German, French, Italian and Romansh. Spanning over 40,000 square kilometres, it is made up of the Swiss Alps, the Plateau and the Jura. While the Alps occupy the greater part of the territory, the Swiss population of approximately 8 million people is concentrated mostly on the Plateau.

From the tranquil shores of Lake Geneva to the concerts of the Montreux Jazz Festival, from skiing black runs in the Alps to sipping coffee in the cafes of Zurich – Switzerland is a land of contrasting attractions. Whether covered in snow and framed by clear blue sunlight in the skiing season or blanketed with flowers in Spring – the mountains of this beautiful country are not to be missed. And nor is the delicious fondue!
