LEARNING NEW SKILLS IN AN ENTREPRENEURIAL BUSINESS

I am Errol Robateau

Controller, Americas region

I joined through the Puma Energy acquisition of ExxonMobil in Central America during 2012. I’ve always believed that change is a catalyst for personal growth so I was excited by this transition and by the fast pace at which the business continues to grow in new markets.

Q&A

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

As controller for the Americas region I’m involved in all aspects of financial management and have the opportunity to work with a very wide range of people - from the most senior executives to accountants and business analysts at a local level. After just three months in the post, I was asked to review the financial organisation of several recently acquired businesses, and completing this project to the highest standard has really been a highlight.

How would you describe Puma Energy?

From what I’ve seen so far, this is an ambitious, fast-growing company with an entrepreneurial spirit. It’s a great place to work if you want to experience lots of different professional challenges.

How would you describe Puma Energy people?

The people here share a ‘can-do’ attitude. They’re also flexible, open in their approach and very proud of what they do and what our business is achieving.

What are your ambitions?

Given the pace of growth, I feel ‘the world is my oyster’. There are so many opportunities opening up and I love learning about new things, new places and new businesses so I’m confident about my future prospects.

How do you relax outside work?

I recently relocated with my family from Belize to Puerto Rico and we’re having great fun exploring our new country and learning the language. I also enjoy sports, particularly basketball, and play a number of musical instruments.

Pumapeople Large

Enjoying life in a dynamic and responsible company

I am Abdiel Urriola

Business-to-Business Manager, Panama

I transferred from ExxonMobil to Puma Energy and from the day I arrived have been impressed by the company’s strategy - which I believe is a good fit for the Central American energy market and the growing economies in the region.

Q&A

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

I actually have a dual role - working as Business-to-Business accounts manager in Panama and Product Manager for Bitumen and Chemicals across the region. Both roles give me the chance to do the two things I enjoy most - interacting with customers and experiencing different cultures. I’m particularly proud to be doing work which helps countries in the region develop their economies.

How would you describe Puma Energy?

This is a very smart, dynamic and responsible company. Puma Energy’s business culture encourages strategies that are carefully planned and efficiently executed to generate results as quickly as possible.

How would you describe Puma Energy people?

The diversity of people is a key characteristic of the company, but despite cultural differences they are all hard workers, focused on specific goals and concerned about the world around them.

What are your ambitions?

I want to sustain my professional growth and contribute to our success as a company by using my experience and energy to bring value to Puma Energy and generate positive business results. I also want to contribute towards a healthy and productive work environment in which all members of the team are energised and motivated to achieve individual and common goals.

How do you relax outside work?

I enjoy spending time with my wife and two kids. We are interested in travelling to new places, seeing new things and trying local food everywhere we go. I believe that physical and mental health are both crucial to personal and professional success, so I try to eat healthy, exercise daily and play golf whenever I can.

Enrico Ferraril

EXCITED ABOUT THE FUTURE

I am Enrico Ferrari

General Manager, Panama

I’ve been in the post for just under a year. I joined the company because I wanted to be part of a dynamic business that is growing fast. I was also very impressed by the team I met during the recruitment process. They captured the energy that makes this an exciting place to work.

Q&A

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

I would say the variety. As General Manager for a team of people, I get great satisfaction from helping my colleagues to meet or surpass our common goals. Every day brings new challenges to deal with and I am now working with our ‘Dashboard’ system - ensuring that we perform in line with our key performance indicators.

How would you describe Puma Energy?

Based on my experience so far, I’d say that the variety and responsibility you get here is only really matched by running your own business.

How would you describe Puma Energy people?

Puma Energy people obviously have great energy – with an entrepreneurial flair, a positive attitude and a very open approach. No one hesitates to speak their mind.

What are your ambitions?

I want to help us double the size of our Panama business in the near future.

How do you relax outside work?

I enjoy golf and with five kids I’m never short of things to do!

Pierre Sowl

COMMITTED TO SUSTAINABLE GROWTH

I am Pierre Sow

Regional Retail Manager, Africa

I joined in 2009, after 12 years with ExxonMobil, during which time I had gained a breadth of experience in the Fuels & Marketing division. I was attracted by Puma Energy’s commitment to Africa - which was in stark contrast to most of the energy majors. The company recognised the potential for sustainable growth here.

Q&A

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

As Regional Retail Manager, I’m involved in all aspects of our operations - growing market share, driving projects forward, controlling costs as well as managing and coaching. I get the greatest satisfaction from contributing to successful country, regional or global projects.

How would you describe Puma Energy?

This is a business that thinks and acts fast. Instead of ‘functional’ silos the emphasis here is on empowering people to achieve results.

How would you describe Puma Energy people?

The key word is ‘communication’. People have strong opinions and they share them. They also share individual skills and competences to achieve common goals.

What are your ambitions?

I don’t set limits on my ambitions, because in Puma Energy new challenges and opportunities are emerging all the time.

How do you relax outside work?

Family comes first for me, but I’m also keen on sports, particularly cycling and tennis.

Benvindo Calungal

TAKING PRIDE IN OUR SHARED ACHIEVEMENTS

I am Benvindo Calunga

Network Planning Manager, Angola

I’m in my third year with Puma Energy. I joined because I was keen to be part of a business that’s relatively new in Angola.

Q&A

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

I’m very involved in land acquisition projects, which are challenging, and in renewing our current licences for Puma Energy sites. My proudest moments come when we open a new service station, because as a member of the Asset Team I’m involved from the earliest stages. I’m also proud that these new openings create job opportunities for young people in our communities.

How would you describe Puma Energy?

This is a place full of opportunities for people who are willing to work hard.

How would you describe Puma Energy people?

People here are dedicated, loyal and respectful of our cultural differences. We share in our successes.

What are your ambitions?

I’m open to new opportunities and keen to share my experience with others in our company. I’d also like to work abroad at some point.

How do you relax outside work?

I read a lot and enjoy watching football and films. I spend most weekends at home or out and about with my family.

Sidy Banel

PLAYING AN ACTIVE PART IN OUR EVOLVING SUCCESS STORY

I am Sidy Bane

General Manager, Zambia

I joined in 2009 as Retail Manager in the Congo before moving to Angola where I helped to set up all aspects of our retail operations. I then worked as Regional Retail Manager in Johannesburg before moving into a General Manager role in Namibia.

Q&A

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

Co-ordinating our retail, business-to-business, bunkering, aviation and storage businesses keeps me busy and challenges me every day. In many ways, my pride and satisfaction comes from watching our ‘success story’ evolve here and in new markets like Angola.

How would you describe Puma Energy?

This is a fast growing, dynamic company that offers interesting challenges and career development opportunities. Puma Energy always rewards commitment and effort.

How would you describe Puma Energy people?

People here are keen to share information and knowledge. They learn fast and are totally committed to our company. They can adapt to new circumstances if required to do so and react efficiently to market changes.

What are your ambitions?

I want to grow with the company and help it achieve its goals. I’m keen to learn more and contribute more by working in a new position and hopefully another country at some point. Both these things are possible in Puma Energy.

How do you relax outside work?

I’m actively involved in an association to help children access the education they need. I also enjoy going to soccer matches.

Bakalanga Masalal21

BUILDING A TEAM THAT SETS STANDARDS FOR OTHERS TO FOLLOW

I am Bakalanga Masala

Business Support Manager, Botswana

I joined Puma Energy two years ago, because I was excited at the prospect of working with ‘the new kid on the block’ - a company bringing new ideas and opportunities to Botswana. It is one of the best decisions I have made in my life so far.

Q&A

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

As Business Support Manager I enjoy all aspects of my role, including supply and logistics, managing our technical teams, customer service, pricing and stock management. When I first joined I played a leading role in the setting up of the Business Support department and building our team has given me great satisfaction. I’m very proud that we are now one of the exemplary departments for our region.

How would you describe Puma Energy?

This is a great place to work because you get the chance to make decisions that really count. The company also takes good care of employees through performance-related reward schemes and providing excellent training and development opportunities.

How would you describe Puma Energy people?

Everyone here is dedicated and results-orientated. They are also very comfortable working in a team. I think it’s vitally important to be a good communicator here too.

What are your ambitions?

I’ve already learnt a lot during my two years here and going forward I’d like to develop new competencies that will enable me to take on further responsibilities and opportunities.

How do you relax outside work?

I enjoy spending time with my family. I’m also a football fanatic - always happy to go to a match, watch football on television or discuss the game with friends.

Alfred Ngakal

WORKING TOWARDS A BETTER FUTURE WITH PUMA ENERGY

I am Alfred Ngaka

Service Station Operative, Botswana

I joined Puma Energy in Botswana as a service station operative for three important reasons: first, I needed a job to provide for a family of six; second, I wanted to work for a company that is bringing growth to my country; third, I wanted a job with potential for the future.

Q&A

This role meets my needs. I have already completed a three-month training course and I know more training is available to help me build new skills and work towards my ultimate ambition - to run my own business, possibly a Puma Energy service station as a franchise. I’m very happy here - but I do think we should open a service station in my home village, Shakawe, because people are always short of fuel there.

Oregopotse Baromal

WORKING AS PART OF A TEAM THAT SETS HIGH SAFETY AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

I am Oregopotse Baroma

Engineering, Botswana

I joined Puma Energy just a few months ago because I wanted to learn and gain more experience working in the aviation industry with a business in which I can grow and develop my skills.

Q&A

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

It’s exciting and a big responsibility to be involved in service checks of all electrical equipment on site - and of course, aircraft refuelling has to be carried out to the very highest standards. Even in the short period of time I’ve been with Puma Energy I have gained experience in new areas. I’ve also been struck by just how rigorous safety standards are here.

How would you describe Puma Energy?

My part of the company is one that sets high safety and performance standards, which are backed up by extensive training for employees. I would also stress the emphasis we place on good customer service.

How would you describe Puma Energy people?

I’ve already noticed that there are many highly experienced people here to support less experienced colleagues. They all seem to be very reliable, efficient and hardworking.

What are your ambitions?

I want to become a highly skilled senior electrical and fuel operator with a successful, growing Puma Energy.

How do you relax outside work?

I enjoy reading novels, listening to music and watching football. Spending quality time with my family is also very important to me.

Elias Natarenol

MAXIMISING MY LOCAL EXPERIENCE IN A GLOBAL ROLE

I am Elias Natareno

Reporting Manager, Geneva

I joined Puma Energy as an Accountant with our Guatemala business back in 2000. I originally joined to finance my studies, but soon discovered that our company has an uncommon vision for growth and became involved in helping us to achieve this.

Q&A

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

Having first worked in Guatemala and then in other local businesses including Paraguay, it is rewarding to bring all my experience together in a global role at our servicing office in Geneva. I’ve achieved a lot already and leading a team of 25 in Paraguay was a high point for me - but every day brings new rewards.

How would you describe Puma Energy?

This is a business with a clear plan for growth on every continent and a strong commitment to quality.

How would you describe Puma Energy people?

People here always try to do their best - and Puma Energy gives them more opportunities than most other companies to enrich their knowledge and grow professionally.

What are your ambitions?

I am keen to explore the new opportunities in head office or our regions that future growth will bring.

How do you relax outside work?

I love outdoor activities, including barbequing and paintballing, along with a range of sports. I also enjoy visiting new places with my family.

Chris Tayl

HELPING TO STRENGTHEN OUR FOOTHOLD IN A NEW REGION

I am Chris Tay

I’ve been here for four months, although so much has happened since I joined that it feels much longer. My first impressions are: great people, impressive financial track record and a challenging role.

Q&A

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

Pee See Weil

DISCOVERING WHAT MAKES PUMA ENERGY TICK

I am See Wei Pee

Q&A

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

How would you describe Puma Energy?

I can see already that this is a place where you never cease to grow professionally and personally. It is challenging yet rewarding.

How would you describe Puma Energy people?

Based on fairly limited experience, my impressions are very positive. Creative, can-do, proactive, persistent, dynamic, approachable, willing to go beyond the best - all these words seem appropriate.

What are your ambitions?

It’s difficult to plan your next step when you’ve only just taken your first - so right now I’ll focus on excelling in my current position and seeing what opportunities arise in the future.

How do you relax outside work?

I look to sport to keep myself physically and mentally fit. I also have a passion for languages, so I try to find time every week to study Spanish.

Rahma Septianal

TRUSTED AND EMPOWERED TO DO MY BEST

I am Rahma Septiana

Q&A

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

I’ve only been in this post for a short time, but I already feel that the company trusts me and empowers me to do my job as well as I possibly can. This is very satisfying.

How would you describe Puma Energy?

This company is all about speed - it has grown incredibly over the past few years.

How would you describe Puma Energy people?

People here are resourceful and really go out of their way to help you. They’re all highly professional and experts in different fields.
