Standing up for safer roads

Our tankers transport vast quantities of fuel across 49 countries in five continents; the majority of our 8,000+ people come to work by car or bus – road safety is therefore a strategic concern for our business.

Our promise

For many years, we’ve committed to programmes dedicated to improving road safety. We involve our employees, their communities and local authorities under one common goal – to reduce traffic accidents, to spread the message that road safety matters and, ultimately, to save lives.

Safer Roads

The world continues to face more road safety incidents in low-and middle-income countries – particularly where urbanization and motorization accompany rapid economic growth. Alongside the Puma Energy Foundation, we unite employees, contractors, their communities and local authorities under a shared vision to reduce traffic accidents, spread the message that road safety matters and, ultimately, to save lives.

In 2017, road safety became the first pillar in our new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy. Our goals are simple yet effective: no accidents, no harm to people, and no damage to the environment. We issue road safety activation kits with promotional materials like posters and car stickers, along with vital road safety briefings and information.

The Puma Energy Foundation’s road safety partnership with the organisation Amend in Africa goes from strength to strength. In 2017, we joined forces with the FIA Foundation in co-funding Amend’s School Area Road Safety Assessments and Improvements programme in Benin, Botswana, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Senegal, Tanzania, and Zambia. The commitment covers three years and more than $1.75 million of investment.

“Road safety is the first pillar of our new Corporate Social Responsibility strategy. Reflecting our various initiatives across the business, we are looking to support projects or partnerships that raise awareness of this critical issue, including investing in safe road infrastructure around schools.”

Charlotte Dauphin, Corporate Social Responsibility Project Manager
